The Atari 800XL was the best selling model of Atari 8-bit computers and rightly so. It is one of the "go-to" models for vintage computing enthusiasts as it is one of the more reliable and upgrade-able models Atari produced. This is not my original unfortunately but one I acquired at a decent price from ebay. It was tested and sold as working but without cables, PSU, software etc. This video is me rigging up power successfully but failing to get video because of lack of resources and a broken LCD projector. Therefore we leap from G1 to G3 with the iMac. I also now know that the PS2 is the "standard" version but that this version is also the more moddable one. We shall investigate... A run through of the latest haul of vintage/retro computers. This is a VOD of an impromptu stream I did not long after the systems were kindly donated and delivered by [Kestral](https://mewblog.thepolarbear.co.uk/@kestral@hackers.town) from the Fediverse. These systems are mostly Apple Macs, a couple of Atari STs and a Sony PS2. Towards the end I did test a couple of the newer systems but mostly it is a fact-finding and show-and-tell session. I am not 100% sure yet what I will be doing with these systems but after some brief testing I may have to cannibalise some of the intel Macs into one working one. There’s no taskbar, no desktop icons, and no visual clutter. My email runs in **aerc**, my RSS feeds in **Newsboat**, and my web browsing in **Lynx**. Everything is fast, predictable, and distraction-free. When I open Newsboat, it immediately loads my RSS subscriptions, a mix of Linux blogs, news sites, and personal journals from friends. It’s not the neatest list in the world (I really should organise it one day), but it gives me exactly what I want, information without noise. Unlike some feed readers that throw everything into one endless list, Newsboat groups feeds cleanly by source. That matters because some sites post dozens of articles a day while others might only update once a month. Separating them lets the quieter voices, personal blogs or smaller projects, actually be seen. **Organising information:** Newsboat’s tagging system is one of its best features. I’ve got tags for *friends*, *games*, *news sources*, *politics*, *podcasts*, and more. One of my favourite feeds is “TheyWorkForYou”, an RSS service that updates whenever UK MPs speak in Parliament. I highly recommend it for anyone in the UK. It’s an easy way to see what your representatives are actually doing, and I think it’s good for democracy to stay informed like that. Some of my other feeds include *Boiling Steam*, *GamingOnLinux*, *FreeGamer*, and a handful of personal blogs like Ghosty’s and Drew’s. I have been learning for just over 3 months and been driving my own car for just over 1 month. I also stopped off at a quiet car park for some bay parking practice. **No sound** as we were talking and there was commercial music on the radio in the background as well. * I estimated 3 driver faults (aka "minors") by test conditions but if my instructor sees this he might spot more! I am an anxious, neuro-divergent person who is finally learning to drive at the age of 53. I tried to learn in manual gear cars a few times over the years, most recently earlier in 2025 but the combination of extra physical controls to operate at the same time as the highest risk moments like junctions and roundabouts just made me close off and panic. Driving automatic only, with a dedicated auto-only instructor has opened things up and made it feel possible for me. The speeds on the display are accurate but in the UK driving test the car's speedometer is taken as the speed and these report a little bit over real speed. The car is showing me about 2-3mph more. Feel free to comment on anything in the drive or ask questions.
